Selectmen's Minutes - October 16, 1990
October 16, 1990     Present:  William P. Dynan, Chairman

At the request of Call Firefighter Luzon, Mrs. Fasci moved, Vess 2nd to support dedication on November 4, 1990 at 11 a.m. of the memorial in front of the Fire Station and to notify the other Town Departments that flags would be at 1/2 mast during this ceremony.  Mrs. Murdoch would attend.  Voted 5-0.

Held tax classification hearing with Board of Assessors.  On motion by Mrs. Murdoch, 2nd Fasci, Selectmen voted 5-0 and Assessors 3-0 to continue with one tax classification.

Old Colony Railroad made presentation on railroad for Town of Hanson.  Vess moved, 2nd Dynan to reconsider position of the Board and to vote to have Old Colony Railroad look at 2nd alternative site.  Motion failed 1-4.  The majority of the Board supports original position of Main Street site.

Board voted 5-0 to support and appoint those persons on the Democratic Town Committee list for election workers.

After presentation by John Ferry and Fire Chief Huska, Mr. Vess moved and 2nd by Murdoch to approve increase in gasoline storage for John Ferry, Ferry's Sunoco, Liberty and Winter Sts. (Plan on file).

Board accepted memorandum from the Treasurer/Collector outlining distribution of paychecks.  Signed RAN's after brief explanation.

Moved by Vess and 2nd by Fasci to approve Class II license at 123 Liberty Street for Anastasios Ntakoulas, Rte. 58 Motors, 8 car limit.  Discussed fee.  Board agreed $100 for license even though there are only 3 months left in 90.
Voted 5-0 to approve license.

Motion by Murdoch to enter executive session under #3 with Finance Committee to further discuss plans relating to specific contract issues and Board's position in reference to potential negotiations.  2nd Vess.  Polled Board 5-0.  No voted taken.  

Held discussion and announced that free cash is $645,698.  Held discussion with School Committee, Finance Committee and citizens and had explanation by Town Accountant of how free cash reached and why it was this high.  Explained change to Mass system as well as Stated adopted changes in procedures.  After discussion of allocation of funds, Selectmen and Fin Com discussed specifics of where would recommend funding occur.  65,000 to utility, 25,000 to reserve fund, 25,000 to legal line, 100,000 to school dept., 25,000 to Police Dept.  Fin. Com. had some disagreement s with this.  5 minute recess.  Informed the Selectmen that would ask for 23,000 in reserve fund, Fin. Com. salary 1,000, Treasurer/Collector expense 1,000.

Board adjourned at 11:00 p.m.
